Learning Resources and Reading
Welcome to the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) section. We hope you will find all the information you need to support use of the LRC and all the services we provide.
Use of the LRC
All year 7 students participate in an LRC induction during their first few weeks at Warlingham School. This enables them to visit the LRC and learn how to take advantage of the resources available. We also provide them with an LRC user guide, a link to which can be found on this page.
New Library Management System
Eclipse.net is a web-based library management system which is accessed from the schools website, so use is not confined just to in school. Our students are now able to browse resources we hold on the system (although there is no substitute for actually handling the resources in the LRC), reserve books that are currently out on loan, review books they have read and create a ‘shopping list’ of future reads! All this is achieved from an extremely user friendly front screen. The students have commented on how user friendly Eclipse is and have worked their way around the system with confidence. However, we have also produced a brief user guide for students should they require some notes to support them, a link to which can be found on this page.
The aim of the Reading List is to encourage the students to read, therefore the list includes different genres and styles - hopefully something for everyone. The book titles come from a range of sources, many having been suggested by the English department, others from the Independent newspaper’s list: ‘50 books every child should read’. Having read one of the books on the reading list, we encourage the students to write a short book review. The best one receives a £5 voucher and house points, as well as being published in the next newsletter. All book reviews are displayed on the reading list notice board. A link to the Reading List can be found on this page along with some useful reading websites.
