Overview
Physical Education contributes to the overall education of the pupils by helping them to lead full and valuable lives through engaging in purposeful physical activity.

Pupils are taught through a continuous process of planning, performing and evaluating created the use of a wide range o teaching and learning styles.
Not all children develop at the same speed but through a wide range of opportunities available the pupils are able to develop at their own pace and achieve success. Realistic goals are set by the staff and pupils themselves so that individuals can feel a sense of achievement, satisfaction and enjoyment.
Physical Education at Warlingham aims to build on children’s enjoyment of, and need for, activity and movement. It seems to develop co-ordination, strength, stamina, skilfulness and to promote spatial awareness, intelligent reactions to situations and appreciation of physical excellence. It should lead to a sense of well-being a healthy lifestyle and a feeling of self-confidence.
Extra-curricular clubs are run in most sports providing opportunities for further enjoyment and enabling skills to be developed at a higher level for our more able and talented students. A variety of teams compete against other schools and we are entered in tournaments playing a high standard of sport with pleasing success.
KS3 Schemes of Work
All students in Year 10 and 11 participate in 3 hours of physical education. They have an opportunity to build on existing skills as well as experiencing a variety of new activities. The girls are taught trampolining, yoga, aerobics and dance (with visiting instructors), fitness (using the Fitness Suite), netball, basketball, rounders, tennis and badminton. They boys are taught fottball, softball, badminton, basketball, tennis, swimming, fitness (using the Fitness Suite) and boxing.
GCSE Course(s) Overview
GCSE Physical Education is offered to those pupils who have a particular interest or expertise in sport.
Students will learn about exercise and training, safety aspects and risk assessment in physical sport and applied anatomy and physiology. They will have to also offer four activities for assessment from at least two different activity groups; games (i.e. football, hockey, rugby etc), gymnastics (i.e. synchronised swimming, horseriding, trampolining etc), dance (i.e. solo, duet, group performances), athletics (i.e. rowing, golf, athletics etc), adventurous (i.e. sailing, climbing, lifesaving etc), swimming and exercise activities (i.e. fitness traning, aerobics, judo etc).

AS/A Level Course(s) Overview
The AS Physical Education course is split into two units. The first Unit (G451: An introduction to Physical Education) is taught in three sections. Section A is Anatomy & Physiology, section B is Acquiring Movement Skills, and section C is Socio-Cultural Studies. The Second unit (G452: Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in Physical Education) studied at AS Level is split into practical and an oral evaluation of performance. In the practical element you are assessed performing in two sports, or coaching & performing, or officiating & performing. The oral evaluation requires you to observe a live performance, evaluate the performance and plan for the improvement of the performance.
The A2 Physical Education course is split into two units. The first Unit (G453: Principles and concepts across different areas of Physical Education) is taught in three sections. The options of study at A2 Level are Section A, Option A1, Historical Studies; Option A2, Comparative Studies; Section B, Option B3 , Exercise and Sport Physiology. The Second unit (G454: The improvement of effective performance and the critical evaluation of practical activities in Physical Education) studied at A2 Level is split into practical and an oral evaluation of performance. In the practical element, you are required to perform in a sport and either coach or officiate in that chosen sport. The oral evaluation requires you to observe a live performance, evaluate, appreciate and improve the performance.
The main focus of these specifications is on participation and performance in physical activity as part of a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle.

A Level Physical Education exam board is OCR. The course code is H154.
AS Level and the units which are studied at AS Level are G451 & G452.
A2 Level Physical Education is H554 and the units studied are G453 & G454.
