Year 7 – The Learning Project
The learning project is a recent addition to our curriculum.
The purpose of the project is to provide students with an ‘integrated learning’ experience where learning is delivered in thematic units which incorporate strands of History, Geography, Citizenship, RE, Politics and Enterprise.
Students will complete 4 Units:
- Our community
- Our democracy
- Our culture
- Our heritage
When assessing student progress on this project we will emphasise Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) rather than National Curriculum levels. The underlying principal of the project is to equip students with skills that will better enable them to meet the expectations of their future examination courses. These skills will include carrying out research, analysing and evaluating data, being able to reflect on the quality of their own work, collaborating with others as part of a team and taking the lead in aspects of their learning.
Homework will comprise of two extended research projects which will provide opportunities for students to impress in these key areas. The first will be set in the second half of the Autumn Term and will be an assessment of the desirability of living in Warlingham based on fieldwork data the students have collected themselves. The second will be set in the first half of Spring Term and will focus on our democracy.
