In September 2008, the school was inspected by Ofsted and judged to be ‘good’ with an ‘outstanding’ Sixth Form provision. A copy of the full report can be seen on the Ofsted website. Some of the comments made by Ofsted on the effectiveness of the school were:
‘Warlingham is a good school, which enables students to learn well. The Headteacher, ably supported by the senior leadership team, provides good leadership of the school and has a clear vision for the future. The school is a confident institution’.
‘Specialist status in business and enterprise is having a positive impact on students’ learning
and their understanding of the world around them’.
‘Students enjoy school; this is reflected in their good attendance record and the rise in numbers choosing to stay on in the Sixth Form’.
‘The school provides a strong extra- curricular programme of sport, music and drama as well as many clubs and special events’.
‘The sixth form curriculum is outstanding with students able to study a wide variety of subjects, both at Advanced and GCSE level’.
In response to Government legislation, significant staffing changes were made a number of years ago. This resulted in the employment of support staff to cover a wide range of activities, some of which had previously been done by teachers.
In October 2007, Ofsted carried out an Aspect Inspection which was part of a survey the Government commissioned to see what impact these changes had made to student achievement. In the Inspector's letter, Warlingham School was judged to be 'excellent' in all categories: the impact on standards and achievement, on curriculum provision, on inclusion and leadership and management of the reformed workforce.
