Business Studies: The GCSE Business Studies exam is on Friday 22nd May 2009. Year 11 students who wish to maximise their chances of a good grade can attend support sessions in the Business Centre. These sessions are tiered and target the skills required to achieve a particular grade.
Business Studies “Get that C” :Tuesday 27th April, Tuesday 5th May and Tuesday 12th May 3.15pm – 4.45pm
These sessions are designed to give additional support to students who want to increase their chances of achieving at least a C in the final exam. Students who are entered for either the foundation or higher tier examination may attend this session.
Business Studies “Get that A*” : Wednesday 28th April, Wednesday 6th May and Wednesday 13th May 3.15pm – 4.45pm
These sessions are designed to give additional support to students who want to increase their chances of achieving grade A or A* in the final exam. Students who are entered for the Higher tier examination may attend this session.
Key Stage 5
Year 12/13 students are able to attend examination revision sessions for Law on Tuesdays with Mr Jones in C2 between 3.30pm and 4.30pm. Year 12/13 students can attend examination revision sessions for Economics and Business on Wednesdays with Ms April in C3a between 3.30pm and 4.30pm. BTEC Retail and Applied Business students are welcome to use the Business Centre after school, where they will be able to seek help from their teachers.
Design & Technology: On Mondays and Wednesdays GCSE/AS/A level Coursework Club is held between 3.45 and 6pm. All membersof the Design and Technology department are involved these clubs.
Drama: Drama Club runs regularly on a Wednesday after school from 3.30pm to 4.30pm for all year groups and has often attracted up to 110 students! The club is largely run by A Level students as part of their school service. The club allows students to experience additional Drama workshops, games and skills working across the year groups. On Mondays & Thursdays from 3.45-5pm Tech Club is held for students interested in lighting/sound/costume etc. Students are invited to receive training from the older students who make up the tech crew - run by students for students! Learning Development: Twice a week between 8.30am & 8.55am - additional help is available for pupils who need support with reading and spelling, run by our specialist teachers, Mrs Harris and Mrs Welbourn. Pupils continuing to have difficulties with literacy are also placed into literacy classes in Yrs 8 & 9 - some being withdrawn for additional help with Mrs Harris. Our Senior Teaching Assistants, Mrs Pay, Mrs Curt and Ms Adams also offer some pupils a variety of literacy support, including comprehension and creative writing classes. A Surrey County Council Youth Worker comes in on a weekly basis to run the Youth Achievement Award with pupils in the KS4 Learning Development classes; this course is designed to build up self esteem, the ability to work with others and to develop other interests such as outdoor pursuits.
Maths: The department will run drop-in homework sessions for all year groups on Monday and Tuesday evenings until 5pm. Students are invited to turn up or book a time to see their teacher. Additional sessions will run to help prepare students for GCSE Statistics coursework in Year 10. Sixth Form students are invited to attend a catch-up lesson each Monday after school to complete homework with the help of their teacher. A mathematics puzzle is published each week outside C23 - all students are encouraged to have a try - prizes are available! Updated: 9/9/10
Media: Starting after October half-term! Warlingham FilmClub is after school every Wednesday in C18 starting at 3.20pm until the end of the film - join in with discussions and reviews of the film - open to all year groups. Members of the FilmClub are able to use the facilities in C18a at lunchtimes, Monday, Year 7 members Tuesday, Year 8 and Wednesday, Year 9. On Thursday lunchtimes, film editing classes take place as well as review writing for the previous evening’s screening. On Fridays a new film-making club will run. Updated: 9/9/10
Modern Languages: On various days of the week between 3.35pm and 4.30pm Year 10/11/12 & 13 students are able to attend for German examination revision with Frau Kommer, French examination revision with Mme Carvell & Ms Rhoda and Year 11 students Spanish revision with Mr Darby in the lead up to mock exams.
