Chichester House

Ethos:

    •    Students should be happy at school - they should enjoy learning.
    •    They will not harass others and will seek help if they are harassed, upset or annoyed.
    •    Be polite - ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ are important phrases - they need to use.
    •    Get involved in all that the school has to offer.
    •    Be aware of the needs of others and attempt to help them.
    •    Attempt to achieve the best they can.
    •    Be competitive, but never in an unsporting manner. Try to win but never at all costs.

Chichester House is named  after Sir Francis Chichester, “the greatest single-handed navigator of the age"  who inspired the whole Nation throughout his adventurous career.  From pioneer pilot between the Wars to daring solo yachtsman in the 1960s, he challenged us all to reach further and higher in our own lives.

Chichester House Report July 2010

As we come to the end of another year it is good to see that our Year 11s were still up for winning prizes and doing their best. A great end to five years work was Emma Hinton receiving the ‘Ball Queen’ award at the leavers’ ball. The whole of Year 11 have been a real credit to the House over the past five years and I hope they retain the same passion in the Sixth Form.

2009/2010 has been a good year for the House as we have taken big steps in improving behaviour and the Attitude to Learning grades. We took an early lead in the House Merits and have maintained a leading position. Year 7s need a special mention for their excellent performances. 7L, who have dominated for two terms, have gradually been pegged back by 7R who took the overall award for the last half term. Individually, Emma Fossett became the first person in the school to gain over 200 merits.

There seems to have been an emphasis on ‘Diversity’ this year with assemblies on the Changing Faces of London, Samir Azzimani (the ‘Couscous Rocket’), a skier from Morocco who came 74th in the men’s downhill at Whistler, and a student presentation on ‘What Do You Know About Islam’.

I am pleased to say that the majority of students in the House follow our ethos of being happy, enjoying learning, being polite, getting involved, being aware of the needs of others, achieving the best they can and being competitive.

Hopefully, the result of the Inter-House competition will bring the House good news. Meanwhile, have a good break and return in September ready for new challenges.
