Mallory House is named after George Herbert Leigh Mallory (18 June 1886 – 8 June/9 June 1924) - an English mountaineer who took part in the first three British expeditions to Mount Everest in the early 1920s. On the third expedition, in June 1924, Mallory and his climbing partner Andrew Irvine both disappeared somewhere high on the North-East ridge during or after completing the final stage of their attempt to make the first ascent of the world's highest mountain. The pair's last known sighting was only a few hundred metres from the summit. Mallory's ultimate fate was unknown for 75 years, until his body was finally discovered in 1999. Whether or not they reached the summit before they died remains a subject of speculation and continuing research.

Mallory House Report July 2010
I have really enjoyed the time I have spent so far as Mallory’s Head of House. The student’s enthusiasm has been superb, as has their effort and achievement, especially when participating in various activities and events. We have done very well in the Inter-House competitions this year, winning the Year 9 science competition and swimming gala. In addition, we came second in the Year 8 Real Game event, the Year 10 football and Year 7 literacy competitions.
Year 7 have worked extremely hard in their project days and recently went on a science trip to Thorpe Park. The Year 8s have been collating and submitting their ‘best’ work for the Classwork Competition and taking part in the Creative Arts days which included activities such as Salsa dancing. Recently, some of Year 9 have been away at Boreatton Park where they took park in lots of different activities such as raft building, canoeing and ‘Jacob’s Ladder’!! The remaining Year 9 took part in Team Challenge, a B&E event, learning many enterprise and team building skills. The Year 10s have been getting a taste of the ‘real world’ during their two week work experience whilst the Year 11s are now enjoying their extended summer holiday having completed their GCSE’s – GOOD LUCK!!
The grand finale to the year will be Sports Day with many students taking part and supporting this brilliant day. With the results from Sports Day and the Classwork competition still to come, my hopes are high for a Mallory victory this year!
On behalf of the House, Mrs Seward and myself, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the tutors for their hard work and ongoing support. I would like to congratulate Miss Masters and Miss Frayne on their appointments as House Achievement Co-ordinators for Mallory and Sharman House respectively. We would also like to wish a fond farewell to Mrs Azizi, Miss Lewis and Miss Donaldson who are leaving us this year - good luck and all the best!
