Who we are

Jacqueline Baker - Chair of Governors

As a parent and step parent of four ranging from 27 to 18, my first experience of being a school governor was more than 20 years ago. This prompted a fascinating and rewarding experience including a decade as Chair at Whyteleafe School, attended by my two children (now in their twenties) and becoming an Advance Skills Governor and Associate Trainer with Babcock International (who deliver educational training in Surrey).

My second career after a family break developed from the huge amount I learnt from being a governor; I have run my own business supporting school and academy boards appointing heads and senior leaders. On the flip side I also work with our aspiring leaders to improve their interviewing skills, so good people can secure headships. Most recently I’ve had the unique privilege of supporting the recruitment and HR set up in a brand new school.  Aside from work I love skiing, enjoy bridge, occasionally attempt to play golf and try to keep track of the spreading family.

Simon Wermig - Governor

I am very pleased to have recently joined the governing body.  I have a long professional background within safeguarding and child protection as well as having experience in the recruitment and IT industry.

I am married with six children, the youngest of whom is currently in Year 8 at Warlingham, and I look forward to her siblings joining her in the years to come. I have a keen interest in music and the arts and greatly value these areas of the curriculum.  I am always prepared to ask the right questions, balancing holding the school to account for decision making whilst supporting and encouraging change to ensure I have a positive impact on the educational standards and wellbeing of students so that ultimately all staff and students alike exceed their potential and are valued members of the local community.

Sue Woodgate - Parent Governor

I have twins in Year 8 at Warlingham and was appointed as a Parent Governor in 2016. I am looking forward to being involved and assisting in the school’s objectives to continuously improve and raise standards whilst maintaining its strong ethos.

Roles I have undertaken, whether in my career as a Chartered Accountant or voluntarily have been hands-on, often requiring attention to detail to find ways to deal with issues in a practical and beneficial manner.

Angela Smith - Staff Governor

I started as a Teaching Assistant at Warlingham School in 2013 having completed my training. Prior to joining Warlingham, I spent 28 years working as a project manager in Investment Banking in the City of London.  I have recently trained as a Learning Mentor and am currently working with students in Sharman House.

I am married and have a son aged 12 years and a daughter aged 11 years. When I am not running them around to their clubs I enjoy dancing, both ballet and tap, something I have done since the age of 4. I like to visit the Theatre when I can, catching up on the latest musicals. During school holidays my family love to travel overseas.

Nickesh Kumar - Parent Governor

I am very excited to serve on the governing body of Warlingham School as a parent governor. I have three sons aged 15, 11 and 5 and a daughter aged 10. My eldest two children are at Warlingham School.

Professionally, I offer over 20 years experience in finance, business and project management, including leadership positions across a wide range of blue-chip multinational companies. I feel that this wide range of skills and experience will help me to make a positive contribution to the life of the school in addition to the education and growth of the pupils.

I have always wanted to contribute in some way to something that is so fundamental to our lives. When the opportunity to volunteer at the school arose, I did not hesitate to put my name forward for it. I am passionate and motivated about ensuring all of our children have a positive experience of school. I want them to feel happy, to be the best they can be, to dream big and to work hard to reach their goals however great or small. I look forward to supporting the school in any way that I can.

Carol Holah - Local Governor

I started training as a primary class teacher in 1998 where I founded my passion for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).  I am now an Inclusion Leader/SENCo at a large Infant Teaching School and home to the Eyela training centre where early years' research and training is carried out.  I regularly run training for nursery/pre-school and primary school staff in areas of SEND as well as facilitating the SEND training for Bromley's Newly Qualified Teachers.   As a Specialist Leader in Education for SEND I do outreach support work as and when required, reviewing schools' SEND provision.  I have extended my own study by obtaining Advanced Skills in Autism as well as Master's level qualifications for the National Award for SENCo (2011) and Language, Literacies and Dyslexia (2019) enabling me to be a specialist teacher and assessor of dyslexia.  I enjoy setting up projects and supporting teacher’s development, utilising my qualification as a facilitator in the Outstanding Teaching Programme and coaching.

I am married mum of two sons, one of which is at Warlingham School and our whole family are huge fans of Crystal Palace FC.

Steve Day - Joint Head of School - Staff Governor

I began my teaching career at Warlingham in 1993, left for promotion in 1999 as a Head of PE and then Director of Sport in a Specialist Sports College, and actually returned to Warlingham in 2007 as Assistant Headteacher.  Since then I have been fortunate to be appointed Deputy Headteacher and then in September 2018 as Joint Head of School. As you can see I have a long association with the School and it means a great deal to me both personally and professionally: I am extremely proud to work as part of the leadership team of Warlingham.

As a former PE Teacher I have a keen interest in sport and really embrace participation regardless of perceived ability as well as developing excellence. I tend not to play as much these days other than Golf, Cycling and Ski-ing, but I am an avid watcher of sport especially West Ham, Kent Cricket and England Football, Rugby and Cricket.

Paul Kinder - Joint Head of School - Staff Governor

I feel extremely privileged to have been given the opportunity to take on the role of Joint Head of School, at such a forward thinking and dynamic school.  One of my central views as a senior leader is that I believe there needs to be relentless shared commitment from all within the school, both students and staff, to drive the development of all and to be successful and to achieve to the best of their ability.

Although I have worked here in a professional capacity since 2013, initially as a Deputy Headteacher, I am also an ex-student of Warlingham and I live locally.  I am thus fully aware of the tremendous potential of the School and its importance within the local community.

My background in education has encompassed Head of Year and Head of Humanities roles with a subject specialism in Geography. I also worked as an Assistant Headteacher at de Stafford School and oversaw many different areas of responsibility in my time there. Outside of education, I have worked in both the retail and the customer service industry with British Gas and Vodafone and even spent some time abroad in the USA working as a football coach.
