Bridging the Gap - Supporting You

The third module in our 'Bridging the Gap' programme, which is designed to help students make a strong start at Warlingham Sixth Form College, explains what academic and pastoral support we offer and how to access it.

Pastoral Support

At Warlingham SIxth Form College, we pride ourselves on providing a high level of pastoral support for students.  Each student joining us in Year 12 will have a personal tutor/mentor who will support them throughout both years of their stay. This tutor will be available to them every day.  Each half term, every student will have a one-to-one mentoring meeting with their tutor.

All students will benefit from a carefully planned induction and support programme delivered by the College Leadership Team and all students will undergo an induction in each of their chosen courses with the support of their subject-specialised teachers.

The College welcomes an exciting and diverse mix of students from several different schools and colleges, so all of our induction activities are planned to ensure that any new students feel quickly at home here.

In the video below, Emily talks about her experience of joining the College.

As well as their tutor, all Year 12 students have the support of an experienced Head of Year (Mr Leay), a Senior Academic Tutor (Mr Knott) who will support with University and Apprenticeships next steps provision (Including Russell Group applications), and a very experienced Head of College (Mr Scott).

Should students have any pastoral concerns they would like to discuss before the new year commences, they should email the Admissions team and Mr Leay or another of the College Team will respond to help in whatever way they can.  Please click here to email admissions or copy this email address into your email client: admissions@warlinghamsixthform.co.uk

Academic Support

It is really important that students choose the right courses to enable them to be successful and to progress to their career of choice after college.  We provide support materials and reading that will help students who are not yet sure about their courses to reflect on the choices they have made.  The materials provided are intended to help guide students to choose courses to support their interests and next career steps.

The support provided includes website access to an online package called Unifrog. This package helps students consider their future by bringing all the available information into one single, impartial, user-friendly platform that helps students to make the best choices, and at the end of their two years, to submit the strongest possible applications to university, the world of work or to take up an apprenticeship.  Students will use this resource regularly during their time with us.

Warlingham students already have login details for Unifrog.  Students new to Warlingham can sign up at www.unifrog.org/code.  You will be asked to register for a form code which is 'SCYBleavers22' and then you will need to fill in the required fields such as name, email address and create a memorable password before clicking 'Sign up'.  Please remember which email address and password you use as you will need these to log on from this point. Should any student have forgotten their password or cannot access Unifrog, please contact the College Team for support and to obtain logons via the admissions email.  Please click here to email admissions or copy this email address into your email client: admissions@warlinghamsixthform.co.uk

Unifrog is one of the many resources we use with our more able students to support applications to the most competitive Universities, school leaver programmes and apprenticeships.  Mentored as a group fortnightly, our Russell Group students are encouraged to demonstrate their interest and passion for their subjects by engaging in the “geek out” activities in the Unifrog subjects' library (search by school subjects), accessing the reading lists provided by the Oxbridge applications site, and taking on a University short course (Future learn) or an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) as one of our enrichment activities.   We do urge you to consider undertaking all of these activities as part of your transition.
